Branch Events 2010

This year we have attended three local events to promote the profile of the Royal British Legion under the banner of “Legion in the Community”. This coming bank holiday we will be at Stapleford Park Miniature Railway Event on Sunday the 29th and Monday the 30th of August with our marquee the aim of which is to raise public awareness of the work of The Royal British Legion. The conversations we have had at past events with members of the public and with veterans old and new and the feedback have made our attendances at these events worthwhile.

Coming along later this year i.e. on the 29th of October we will be holding our Annual Armistice Dinner in our Legion Club which consists of a four course meal and entertainment. On Saturday the 30th we are re dedicating our garden of Remembrance in Egerton Park next to our Town War Memorial at 11am this Garden gives legion members and members of the public an opportunity to plant crossesin memory of loved ones and friends.

On Tuesday the 9th and Saturday the 13th of November we will be manning our Poppy Stall in the centre of Melton and we are looking for people to sell Poppies in the town during this week, if you are able to give an hour or so of your time I am sure our Poppy Organiser Mr Alun Hodges will be pleased to hear from you on Tel. 01664 852863 or just call in at the legion club and leave your name.

On the 11th day of 11th month at 11am we will be holding our Branch Remembrance and wreath laying service outside our Legion Club in Thorpe End after which we hope to present the prizes to the winners of our design a Poppy card competition which is open children between the ages of 5-11.
This competition is Judged by Local artist Mr B. Hollingshead

On Sunday the 14th of November the annual Service of Remembrance will take place in St Mary’s Parish Church details of which will be in the local paper. At 6pm that evening the Melton Legion’s Own Service of Remembrance takes place in Sage Cross Methodist Church to which all are invited to attend.

Our gallery page shows some photos taken at various events at which the Melton Legion were in attendance.
